Syd Nomis was a Springbok (national team) wing and center in 55 international rugby matches from 1966 to 1971. He represented South Africa in a record 25 consecutive Test international matches—a mark he continues to own into the year 2001.

His Test match tours include 1966 in Argentina; 1967 at home against France; 1968 at home against the British Lions; 1968 in France; 1969 at home versus Australia; 1970 in the United Kingdom; 1970 at home against New Zealand; 1971 at home against France; and 1971 at home versus the British Lions.

Nomis also represented Transvaal 54 times over 11 years, the first time in 1963. He was selected for the Quaggas Invitational South African Team in 1961 and 1962.
