The ranking Associated Press’ (AP) baseball writer from 1943 to 1966, J.G. Reichler was recipient of the 1980 J.G. Taylor Spink Award, marking his election to Major League Baseball’s Hall of Fame.

In 1966, Reichler took the position of MLB public relations director under Commissioner William Eckert; and later, special assistant to Baseball Commissioner Bowie Kuhn.

The uniquely opinionated Reichler carried the reputation as a “fact-ferreting and trade-sniffing writer and historian”. He authored over a dozen books, including The History Of Baseball: Its Great Players, Teams And Managers, The Great All-Time Baseball Record Book, Baseball's Great Moments, and was editor of numerous editions of the Ronald Encyclopedia of Baseball between 1960-1980.
