Deena Kastor, a Botson area native, won the bronze medal in the 2004 Olympics marathon.

She is a two-time World Cross Country silver medalist, a five-time U.S. champion in the 10,000 and 15,000, eight-time U.S. cross country champion, eight-time All-American and a U.S. Olympics Trial marathon winner.

Kastor has held the American record for the marathon, half-marathon, 10-mile, 12-kilometers, and 8 kilometers. 

She won the Jesse Owens Award as the U.S.A. Track & Field's most outstanding woman and the organization's Visa Humanitarian Award in 2003.

Deena was also inducted into the Southern California and National Jewish Sports Halls of Fame.
